So, for the last visit in Palawan, we unintentionally added the Underground River on our itinerary. We had a day to leisurely spent in Puerto Princesa so we took a chance to finally experienced Underground River. The Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park is a protected area of the Philippines. The park is located in the Saint Paul Mountain Range on the western coast of the island of Palawan, about 80 kilometers north of the city center of Puerto Princesa, and contains the Puerto Princesa Subterranean River which is managed by the City Government of Puerto Princesa since 1992.

A friend of ours based in Palawan actually arranged the tours for us. That’s why it was a non-hassle tour as we were fetched at the Puerto Princesa airport, traveled 2 hours, slept while on transit… and voila… we arrived at Sabang port, the starting point of Underground River tour. We paid, Php 2,200 per person that includes:
The Underground River is part of the Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Underground River is one of the longest navigable underground rivers in the world, with a total length of 8.2 Kilometers. It was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1999, and voted as a New 7 Wonders of Nature in 2012.
After lunch, we waited for our boat that brought us to the island where Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park located which is 20-mins via motor boat. Then our tour guide, handed as an audio guide (which is available in different language, by the way) that we used once the tour started. The audio is sync with what you see as you go along the river inside the cave. Though, you can still ask your tour guide after the tour if you have any.

Inside the cave, rock formations were incredible. Different shapes and sizes were formed and you can play with your creative imagination as your boat sail in the river inside the cave. Mushrooms, cathedral-like facade, and you can even figure out celebrities with those rock formations. 😊 There are bats and quite smelly, too. So, it’s necessary to always close your mouth even though at awe due to water mist and bat's whatnot.
