My recent trip in Sagada, Mountain Province which was in January this year was not my first time. I’ve been in that cool and wonderful place up north, with an almost 12 hours land travel via Coda Bus Lines (the only bus line that has a direct route to Sagada), two years ago and the experience was amazing though it was a quick and had a jam-packed itinerary so when we decided to go there – I made sure that it was a relax getaway – well, perks of having travel buddies also known as friends that don’t want to have a long walks or tiring activity – just chill and yet fun trip matters.
We booked our ticket via bookaway.com because of the convenience of booking a ticket online. With that, no need to go to the bus terminal and already save ourselves from the traffic and such. Ideally, you should book or purchased your ticket ahead of time since Coda Bus Lines is the only bus that has a direct route so expect that it also has a high demand thus, ticket can be sold out days prior to your travel date. Again, if you have a full-time job and wanted to maximize your weekend, which is time for travel, then I would strongly suggest that you do advance booking for secured seat and have a hassle-free travel. They have three schedule which are 8:00PM, 9:00PM and 10:00PM, please take note that schedule may change so better check online – well, you can definitely see it upon booking; available schedule will be displayed. We booked the last trip which was at 10:00PM of Friday since some of us have a normal day job schedule and check-in time will be at 2:00PM, so we agreed to book the last trip.
What’s good with the night trip… hmmm… I just slept all night long… the seat was not comfortable though, but it was good enough to made me fell asleep. After about 9 or 10 hours on the road, with two stop overs, we stopped somewhere (in Bontoc) to see the picturesque view of rice terraces and of course, had some photos. It was almost 10:00AM when we reached Sagada Town Proper. From there, the journey began.

We had breakfast at Chow Restaurant, it looks like a cafeteria. The food was ok, though the chicken and pork soup that we had for breakfast the next day were flavorful, and cheaper compared to other cafés and restaurants. By the way, listed here the must-try café and restaurant when in Sagada, Mountain Province, check it out. After having breakfast, we looked for a place to stay. Yes, you read it right, we haven’t booked an accommodation in advance. Because, since we were aiming for a chill getaway – accommodation must be 1) comfortable 2) with a beautiful view where we can have coffee or just appreciate the view 3) affordable. So, after 30 mins or so, we found one – it has balcony, the room is spacious, it has a rooftop with a great view and affordable; a room good for 4 was only Php1000 for an overnight stay. We checked-in by 11:30AM at George Guesthouse, freshened up and it was already four in the afternoon when we decided to go out and roam around, enjoy the cool weather and try different foods.

At 8 o’clock in the evening, restaurants and cafés were already closed. In Sagada, there is a curfew so that farmers and workers can sleep and rest as they have to be awake early the next day. With that, we just bought drinks and stayed on our lodging’s veranda, but we dozed off not too late because we have an early call time for our food tripping. 😊

Restaurants open at 8:00AM, so we just ate at Chow Restaurant for the second time because they were the only option at 7 o’clock in the morning. Then, went to Bana’s Coffee. And while we’re having our usual conversation, we opted to go to Hanging Coffins so that we had something touristy on our getaway. We paid Php300 for the tour guide, then Php10 per person for the entrance fee and then, the headed to the destination. It was a 30-min walk from/to; a little bit tiring but it’s ok. You shouldn’t miss Hanging Coffins when in Sagada because it is just walking distance from the town proper – better schedule it in the morning; we did ours at noon, so it was too hot, don’t forget to bring water.
