As I was unboxing my planner for this year... I couldn't help but think how time passed by so fast... voila - it's the second month of the year 2023 already! Though, I already have pre-planned goals as I practiced to write a 2-year goal for leeway (that's me telling myself not too hard with my life and still able to enjoy it! It's the right amount of balance, for sure.) Anywoo, better late than never for another year, another goal setting, right?
New Year, New YOU! |
As the calendar rolls over to a new year, it's natural to feel motivated to make positive changes in our lives for the better. While resolutions are often made with the best of intentions, it can be challenging to stick to them. The key to success is setting achievable goals that align with your values and desires. Here's a guide to help you make 2023 your best year yet.
Step 1: Reflect on the Past Year
This is a very important step for me - I love checking the list and ticking it off one by one. And so, before setting new goals, it's important to reflect on the past year. What worked well for you? What didn't go as planned? Consider what you're proud of and what you'd like to improve upon. This reflection will give you a foundation to build upon as you set new goals for the coming year. It's also knowing your core strength and weaknesses on the "why" and figuring out how you can maximize those in achieving your goals.
Step 2: Set SMART Goals
SMART is an acronym that stands for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound. When setting your goals, make sure they meet each of these criteria. For example, instead of saying, "I want to get in shape," you could say, "I want to exercise for 30 minutes a day, five times a week for the next 12 months." This goal is specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound, which makes it more likely that you'll stick to it.
Step 3: Prioritize Your Goals
It's important to have a clear understanding of what's most important to you. Consider what will bring you the greatest sense of satisfaction and fulfillment. Rank your goals in order of importance, and focus on the top few. Trying to tackle too many goals at once can be overwhelming, so focusing on just a few will give you the best chance of success. You may also justify them if it is good as a short or long term goal, that way, you can prioritize whatever works for you.
Step 4: Create a Plan of Action
Now that you have your goals set, it's time to create a plan of action. Break your goals down into smaller, manageable steps. This will help you stay on track and avoid feeling overwhelmed. Consider what resources you'll need to achieve your goals and make a plan to acquire them.
Step 5: Track Your Progress
As you work towards your goals, it's important to track your progress. This will help you stay motivated and on track. Consider using a journal, a spreadsheet, or a goal-setting app to keep track of your progress. Celebrate your accomplishments along the way, no matter how small they may seem.
Step 6: Be Flexible and Adaptable
Life is unpredictable, and it's important to be flexible and adaptable when working towards your goals. If things don't go as planned, don't beat yourself up. Instead, reassess your approach and see if there's a different way to achieve your goal.
To sum it up, setting achievable and meaningful New Year's goals can be a powerful way to bring positive changes to your life. Remember to be patient, persistent, and kind to yourself as you work towards your dreams. 2023 can be your best year yet if you have a clear vision, a solid plan, and the determination to make it happen. At the end of the day, your life is what you make it and yours is incomparable to others.
Enjoy the journey, savor the moment and have fun while achieving it. You do you, Dahhhlings!
