As a global leader in technology, Samsung strives to set a good example by advocating for gender equality, empowerment of all women in the workplace, and talent development for the youth with the Samsung and TESDA Technical Training Program. The program aims to equip them with competencies and opportunities by providing skills development and training so that they can unleash their potential in non-traditional trades in ICT and the electronics sector.

The partnership between Samsung Electronics Philippines Corporation (SEPCO) and TESDA began in 2015, when they built the Electronics Products Assembly and Servicing Training Laboratory in Biñan City, Laguna and in Zamboanga. The partnership provided learning opportunities for the youth under TESDA’s Electronics Products Assembly and Servicing (EPAS) NC II course.

The new partnership consists of the Consumer Electronics Training Program for the TESDA Women’s Center and the Handheld Device Training Program under TVET or Technical and Vocational Education and Training.

Skills Training for Women and Youth

The TWC program is designed to enhance the knowledge and skills of the selected learners on Consumer Electronics Servicing. Open to Filipina women aged 18 to 21 years old, trainees will undergo three months of on-the-job training under SEPCO. The program will be implemented in the second quarter of 2023 with three batches of 50 students each and the program to be hosted at the TESDA Taguig TWC Office.

Meanwhile, the Handheld Device Training Program for TVET is open for Filipinos aged 18 to 21 and will provide learners with the competencies necessary to service the hardware and software issues that arise in mobile phones and other handheld electronics like tablets and wearable devices. They will also go through a three-month long on-the-job training under SEPCO, which will start at the third quarter of 2023 in current TESDA Centers in Laguna and Zamboanga, which will accept 100 students per location.

Both programs provide in-plant and in-school training based on a training plan established and conducted collaboratively by an accredited educational institution and a business entity. The trainees will be able to immerse themselves in and learn about the whole line-up of Samsung products, including Smart Things, which provides exposure to the internet of things (IoT) and connectivity.

TESDA will oversee student selection and enrollment with the program's top-performing apprentices receiving the opportunity to work for SEPCO Service Center Partners nationwide, kickstarting their career journey in electronics and information technology.
